Summer Camp - Law Enforcement Unit

Law Enforcement Unit

Unidad de Fuerzas del Orden

Course Description

This unit is an advanced leadership-focused training experience for high school cadets that emphasizes professionalism, judgement, teamwork, and decision-making skills. Cadets will learn about the history and evolution of law enforcement; an overview of criminal law, civil liberties, and the US Constitution as they apply to policing; and the role of ethics, professionalism, and public trust in the exercise of authority. Cadets will also develop their communications skills, including verbal de-escalation, interviewing, and teamwork. Cadets will conduct performance-based tasks related to arrest and control, handcuffing, defensive tactics, baton scenarios, traffic stop procedures, basic criminal investigation, and evidence processing. Much of the training, conducted at the tactical warehouse, is designed to culminate into a final Field Training Exercise (FTX). Applicants should note that this course involves moderate physical intensity and is designed to develop mature, confident leaders rather than technical law enforcement proficiency. However, throughout the course, cadets will be given opportunities to interact with current law enforcement professionals and guest speakers who provide real-world insight into the responsibilities, expectations, and standards of the profession.
